Betty Olivas Jones

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Betty Jones (née Olivas). After bravely fighting cancer for three years, she passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 68 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Betty was born on August 26, 1957, in Pecos, Texas, to the late Patricio and Maria Gloria Olivas. Although she grew up in Pecos, she spent many years of her life in Odessa, Texas, where all five of her children were born.

Betty was a joyful soul who loved being silly and creating nicknames for those closest to her. She often made up songs as a way to express her love and found great joy in simply loving people. Her faith in God was the foundation of her life and sustained her through many of life’s challenges. Even in the darkest moments, she held firmly to her faith, believing and trusting that God was always with her.

Throughout her life, Betty fulfilled many roles, but the one she cherished most was being a mother. She worked tirelessly to ensure her children always had what they needed and never let a day pass without reminding them how deeply she loved them.

She is survived by four of her children, Selena and Lyndsi Vasquez, and Dylan and Derek Jones; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary L. and Edward Dutchover; her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Diana Olivas; her many nieces and nephews; her best friend Martha Marquez Bolivar and her extended Marquez family. She was preceded in death by her son, Joshua M. Vasquez; her sister, Shirley Jeanie Olivas; her brother, Tony Olivas; and her parents.

Memorial services for Betty will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Odessa Bible Church, 3901 Penbrook Street, Odessa, TX 79762.

The family extends a special thank you to the compassionate staff at Heart-to-Heart Hospice in Fort Worth, TX, for their warmth and tenderness in caring for our mother during her final days.
