It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Carol Bergt-Theriot on May 8, 2026 in Rockwall, TX, aged 75. Carol was born on October 3, 1950, in Orange, Texas, to Doris Wright-Welch, Jimmy Welch, Jr. and Jasper Bergt, who have all predeceased her. Her life was a tapestry woven with love and a profound commitment to her family.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Donnell Atkinson Anderson (Blake) of Brownsboro, AL, Cheryl Atkinson Dennis (Steve) of Greenville, TX and Theresa Theriot Allan (Brian) of Rockwall, TX. Her spirit continues through her dear brothers, Charles Bergt (Sherri) of Mauriceville, TX and Mark Bergt (Karen) of Texarkana, AR. Carol has 6 grandchildren, Riley Dennis-Ilaoa, Wyatt Anderson, Nolan Anderson, Riot Allan, Paisley Dennis, Rebel Allan, and 2 great-grandchildren, Adira Ilaoa and Tane Ilaoa. She has numerous nieces, nephews, a bonus daughter, Sheila Corpus Harrison and many extended family. She also leaves behind her close friends turned family, Val Long (Bob) and Sandy McMullen (Ken) and a circle of friends at The Lodge at John's Road who admired her deeply.
Carol's journey in education began at Little Cypress - Mauriceville High School in Orange, Texas, where she graduated in 1968. Known for her vibrant spirit, she was elected as class favorite and served as yearbook editor, infusing her artistic talent into every illustration. Despite being offered a full art scholarship, Carol chose a path of service, accepting a position as a secretary with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. She later moved back to Texas, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the manufacturing and oil industries in Dallas and Orange, TX.
Her patriotic heart led her to passionately support the Wounded Warriors Project, reflecting her deep-seated respect for those who served. Carol's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was an active member of Little Cypress Baptist Church in Orange, Texas and later attended River Hills Church in Huntsville, Alabama, and Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, Texas.
Carol's creativity was boundless, and she expressed it through her love of crocheting, coloring, drawing, painting, and crafting intricate greeting cards. Simple pleasures came from watching movies, reading, and enjoying laughter-filled moments with loved ones. Known for her willingness to help others, Carol's nurturing spirit was evident in her readiness to cook a meal, lend a hand with home projects, or care for family pets. She especially loved African fauna: lions, tigers, cheetahs, elephants and buffalo; her favorite clothing patterns were animal prints and lots of bling! She was also immersed into K-drama's and Asian culture.
A private memorial with immediate family will be held in Rockwall, Texas, as they gather to celebrate Carol's life and legacy. In this time of sorrow, the family finds comfort in the words of John 16:22: "Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you."
Carol Bergt Theriot's life was a testament to the power of love and laughter. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who were privileged to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift.
