Charles John Monroe was born on May 6 1970 in Carson, Ca to Charles H Monroe and Karen L. Monroe. After a life filled with family, friendships, and passions that touched many people, Charles passed away on on July 18, 2026 in Justin, TX.
Charles grew up in Norwalk, CA where he was active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Indian Guides. From an early age he displayed a natural curiosity and talent for problem solving. When his family purchased one of the first Atari gaming systems, Charles quickly mastered the games and took pride in completing them with remarkable speed and skill. This sparked a lifelong passion for gaming and technology. As computers became more accessible, Charles taught himself computer programming and developed the skills to build and customize his own computers, turning a childhood interest into a lasting pursuit that would remain an important part of his life.
As a child, his family went camping frequently, where Charles learned survival skills, how to shoot guns and how to live in the wilderness. Charles carried his passion for guns and his survival skills throughout his life. During these weekend camping trips the family started racing dirt bikes. Charles took an interest in racing dirt bikes, he won many races, but as he became older, he found his other interests more rewarding.
Charles attended Santa Fe High School where he participated in Ensemble, and competed on the Track and Cross-Country teams. During this time, he developed interests that reflected both his creativity and technical abilities. He discovered a lifelong passion for Dungeons and Dragons, enjoying the storytelling, strategy, and camaraderie the game provided. Through countless adventures shared with friends, he formed lasting bonds that remained meaningful throughout his life.
Charles also developed a passion for remote-controlled (RC) cars. He loved building, modifying, and fine-tuning his vehicles, always looking for ways to improve their performance. The races, gatherings, and friendships that grew from the hobby brought him great enjoyment and created many cherished memories over the years. He was also a proud member of DeMolay, where he valued the fellowship, leadership opportunities, and personal growth the organization offered.
As an adult, Charles pursued a variety of careers that reflected his technical skills and strong work ethic. He worked in several industries throughout his life, including at a locomotive manufacturing facility, where he served a number of roles. He took particular pride in the locomotives he painted, knowing that his craftsmanship contributed to projects that would travel across the country.
Charles carried his lifelong passion for gaming into adulthood and became a respected figure within the online gaming community. Streaming under the names Sandman_DL and Divinelunatics, he developed a large following, particularly through his involvement in the Minecraft community. Charles enjoyed spending time gaming with his nephews, his brother, and other family members, exchanging thoughts and laughter. Those who knew him online admired not only his gaming skills but also his intelligence, creativity, humor, and willingness to help others. He had a unique ability to bring people together, transforming viewers, into friends and creating a welcoming community that spans the globe. For many, Charles was more than a streamer, he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of encouragement. The friendships and connections he built through gaming remained among the most meaningful relationships of his life.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving mother Karen L. Monroe, his sister, Kristy J. Monroe Bezner, and his grandparents; Charlie H. Monroe, Neecie O. Monroe, John W. Stevens, and Dorothy M. Stevens.
Charles is survived by his father Charles H. Monroe; his sister, Terri (Wayne) John; and his brother, Michael (Faith) Monroe. He is also survived by his thirteen nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and members of his beloved streaming community, all of whom will miss him deeply.
