Chris Grant

Jul 5, 1946 — Jul 15, 2026

Mary Christine Grant, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully with her family by her side at their home in Denton, Texas, on July 15, 2026 at the age of 80. We are thankful that her dementia is gone, that she is whole again and in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Chris was born July 5, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Herbert and Olive Hackner. She had a happy childhood in St. Paul, where she loved growing up with her younger brother, Mike. Chris attended Randolph Heights Grade School and graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1964. Chris attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, on scholarship and transferred to Mankato State College before marrying the love of her life, Keith, whom she met on a blind date her freshman year set up by their dear friends, Ron and Cathy Peterson. Keith and Chris married at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Paul on June 4, 1966.
Chris thrived as an Air Force pilot’s wife, moving with Keith to Lubbock, Japan, South Bend, Myrtle Beach, and Abilene. In addition to being the best stay-at-home mom Rikk and Amy could ask for, she enjoyed many hobbies including painting, flower arranging, cake decorating, collecting tins and spoons, and had a remarkable knack for discovering chocolate everywhere she went.
After Keith’s retirement from the military, they moved to the DFW metroplex and settled in Southlake where they remained for 28 years while Keith flew for and then retired from American Airlines. They enjoyed the benefits of this lifestyle and were able to travel the world, seeing many sights over the decades. As an empty nester, Chris resumed her college studies and began volunteering at Real Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center. As the center grew, her role expanded into a paid position as their bookkeeper, a role she held for many years.
Chris’ faith in Jesus guided and sustained her throughout her life. She was active in church, volunteering for activities including the altar guild, small groups, VBS, and Women’s Bible study. She and Keith spent the last few decades as members of Living Word Lutheran Church in Grapevine, where they found their cherished church home and developed lasting friendships.
Chris will be remembered for her loving service to her family and friends. Her warmth, kindness, and joyful heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Keith; her children, Rikk Grant and wife Samantha, Amy Homeyer and husband Jonathan, and Valerie Grant, the mother of her grandsons; her grandchildren, David Grant and fiancée Kaycie Ryan, Michael Grant, Hannah Morrison and husband Luke who are expecting Chris’s first great-grandchild, and Samuel Homeyer.
She is also survived by her brother Mike Hackner, brother-in-law Jerry Struemke, sister-in-law Cheryl Johnson, and sister-in-law Margie Grant; her nieces and nephews, Michelle Hackner and husband Adam Woodruff, Matthew Hackner and wife Laura, Tony Struemke and wife Jenny, Shane Struemke and wife Carrie, Angela Pierce and husband Travis, Kyle Johnson and wife Rose; along with numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Chris is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters-in-law, Mary Hackner and Diane Grant, and her brother-in-law Lowell Grant.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Brittany Little for her compassion, expertise, and care for Chris over the last two years.
