Cody Allen Burns, 27, a devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and cowboy died in a car accident Saturday March 12, 2011. Funeral: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at  First United Methodist Church of Crowley, 509 W. Peach St. Visitation: 5-8 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at First United Methodist of Crowley. Burial: Crowley Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Cody Burns FFA Scholarship Fund at PO Box 371, Crowley, TX 76036 and/or the Crowley First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Cody was born August 17, 1983, the son of Robert “Butch” Burns and Jeanette Burns. Raised in Crowley, he was a 2002 Crowley High School graduate and attended Weatherford College and Tarleton State University. Cody lived life to its fullest.  An avid hunter and fisher, he shared his love of the outdoors by inviting others along, teaching or through stories of his adventures with friends.  His skill and work ethic were recognized by earning the Lone Star FFA Degree and the American FFA degree, the organization’s highest degree. His heart always called him away from the city lights to his love and respect for nature, animals and the reward of making a living on his horse. A Christian Cowboy, he earned the loyalty and admiration of all he encountered, especially his fellow cowboys and co-workers. He will be missed greatly by his mother and father as well as Joel Burns & J.D. Angle, brother and brother-in-law of Fort Worth; Robin, Hayden, Sydnee, Seth and Sutton Poynter, sister, brother-in-law, niece and nephews of Aledo; aunts and uncles Bobby and Vi Legg of Senatobia, MS, Joel & Glenda Thacker of Cleburne, and Gerald and Brenda Burns of Comanche and many cousins and their families.  Additionally he is survived by hundreds of cherished friends and fellow cowboys.  He was preceded in death by grandparents G.A. “Pete” and Melba Burns, Ray and Avon Legg and step-grandmother Ruth Legg, all of Crowley, Aunt Nell Akin and Uncle Jack Cobb.
