EVERMAN — Colbert Wen­dell Hobbs, 89, went to re­side eternally with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home, Burleson. Burial: Everman Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tues­day at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Wendell Mitchell, Matthew Sumpter, Ja­son Davis, Joseph, Bradley and Ste­phen Barrington. Honorary pallbearer will be grandson Sean Watson. Wendell was born Aug. 18,1916, in Covington and was the only son of Athie and Delia Hobbs, He served 20 years in the Navy, having fought in both World War II and the Korean War. Wendell re­tired from the Navy in August 1957. He then served 20 years in civil service and retired in 1979. Wendell resided in Everman for over 40 years. He will be forever remembered for his loving na­ture and his wonderful sense of humor. Wendell was a devoted husband, fa­ther, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Hobbs’family would like to thank Ginger, Theresa and the staff at Community Hospice for their love, care and support, and Dr. Michael Ross and staff   i of the Texas Cancer Care at Huguley Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, LaVerne Samuels; and son-in-law, Thomas Mitchell. Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Hellen Hobbs; son, Lonnie Hobbs; daughters, Linda Sumpter, Peggy Hobbs Mitchell, Patsy Hobbs, Gwenda Hobbs, Debra Hobbs Barrington and Pam Hobbs; sis­ter, Gatha Caveness; 14 grandchildren; \ 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
