CROWLEY — Constance Maxey, 102, passed away on Monday November 04, 2013. Funeral: 2:00 P.M. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Interment: Clinton, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Compassion International. Constance was born on January 23, 1910 in Enid, Oklahoma to Reverend William Gayer and Mabel Fields Gayer. Constance graduated Oklahoma City University in 1938 and was a member of Alpha Omega Sorority. She married Dr. O.D. (Sam) Maxey on December 22, 1940. Together they raised 3 daughters in Paducah, Kentucky where Sam practiced Urology. Constance taught school in one room schoolhouses in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. In the 1960’s Constance began to work on her masters degree in English at Murray State College. In the 70’s she took up quilting, knitting and crocheting for missions. Her true love was playing the piano especially for her friends at the Heritage Place retirement center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Constance is preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Grovene Diamond, Naomi Gayer and Aurella Fleenor. She is survived by 3 daughters, Samalyn Cudek Dougherty and husband Bill, Patricia Meier Nighswonger and husband, Edwin and Carolyn Brantley and husband, Bruce; sister, Gayle Hoberecht; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and another expected in May.
