FORT WORTH — Curtis Greer Jr., 88, died on Saturday June 16, 2012 surrounded by his adoring family. Funeral: 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Sagamore Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Interment: 12:30 P.M. Thursday at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home in Burleson. Curtis was born on October 13, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas to C.O. Greer and Anna Wilson Greer. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1939 until 1940 when he then transferred to the United States Army. During World War II he served as a medic earning the bronze star and the purple heart. Curtis retired from the Army as a Captain in 1961. Curtis married Lavaughn Dennis on December 31, 1943, an enduring love that lasted for 68 years. He was a Deacon and longtime member of Sagamore Baptist Church. Curtis was the Secretary/Treasurer and Newsletter Editor and Historian for Chapter 123 of the National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps alumni. He was a lifelong fan of the Texas Rangers. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Deirdre Carpenter. Survivors: wife, LaVaughn; son, Dennis Greer and wife, Kathy; daughters, Daphne Baskerville and husband, Mike, Debbie Nelson and husband, Mike, and Diane Brooks and husband, Jake; brother, Bob Greer; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
