Debra Askew

Debra “Debbie” Lynn Askew, 66, was born on February 3, 1960 and peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday July 16, 2026 in Grand Prairie.
Her memorial service will be August 8, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Grand Prairie Funeral Home.
Debbie lovingly known as Mimi was a free spirit who found joy in the beauty of nature, whether walking amongst the trees or swimming in the sea. She loved beginning her days outside with a good cup of coffee on the porch watching the birds. She found peace tending to her gardens with the chickens and ducks supervising behind her. She also loved baking for her those she loved. To Mimi family and good friends were the most precious things in life. She worked hard for her family but played harder. With an adventurous spirit, Mimi was always ready to roadtrip to the casinos with her mom, find adventures in a new state park or simply find a new antique shop. She was intelligent, creative and deeply intuitive. Mimi had a remarkable way of turning everyday moments into teachable moments especially to her grandchildren.
As sweet as Mimi was, she also had a mischievous side that made life more fun and interesting. The ones closest to her knew that when her hair turned bright red and said “so here’s what we’re gonna do” that meant one of two thing, either someone needs to find bail money or you were about to have a really fun time.
Through life’s challenges, Debbie faced each one with resilience, determination as she smiled with grace. She found happiness in making everyone smile and was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. Above all she cherished her family, friends and all her fur babies. Being Mimi brought her immeasurable happiness and she treasured every moment of it.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Marion Nettles; her husband, Marvin Ray Askew; her son Christopher Alan Askew; her brother Richard Andrew Nettles and her brother-n-law, Phillip Wayne McCormick.
She leaves behind her daughter and son-n-law Robin Lynne Askew-Cuellar and Jesus Adrian Cuellar; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Avry Cuellar and Rafael Lynn Cuellar; and the newest great granddaughter Elyiana Lynne Cuellar-Sanche.
She is also survived by her mother Maxine Nettles; her sister’s Charlotte Ann Nettles-Tubb, Jacqueline Nettles-McCormick and Sylvia Joe Nettles-Maurer and brother-n-law Dennis Maurer. Along with all her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, extended family and deer friends that will miss her deeply
Even though Debbie couldn’t beat this last battle, we find comfort knowing she is finally at peace. Her adventurous spirit, infectious smile, fierce determination and unwavering love for family will forever remain in the hearts who knew and loved her.
