Debra Kaye Weathers

Debra Kaye Goerdel Weathers, 67, passed away peacefully in her home Monday evening, October 8, 2025, in Keene, Texas with her daughter by her side. She was born on June 12, 1958, to Clayton Sr. and Florene (Wagner) Goerdel in Brownwood, Texas. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Priddy, TX 1958. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 1976.

Debra was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Cleburne, and she had an unwavering faith in God. She also had a boundless love for all creatures, great and small, whether it was rescuing a stray cat, feeding the birds, or supporting animal charities online like ASPCA and World Wildlife Fund (yes, she even adopted an elephant by sending a monthly check). She certainly had a knack for caring for those who could not speak for themselves, and her heart seemed to grow with every life she helped save.

Debra is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Cox and her husband Chris of Cleburne, Texas and her son, James Weathers and wife Gaby of Corsicana, Texas; and nine grandchildren, Allie Meek, Blake Carmack, Christopher Weathers, Kaylie Weathers, Madison Weathers, Dylan Cox, Zachary Cox, Alyssa Cox, and Thomas Cox; along with her siblings, Clayton Goerdel, Jr. and wife Bethany of Justin TX, Darryl Goerdel of Brownwood, and Laura Rodgers and husband Kevin of Brownwood. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her, including her faithful companion, her beloved service dog, Opie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton Sr. and Florene Goerdel; sister, Clarissa Hardin; and stepson, Christopher Glass.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 3:00pm, at Ascension Lutheran Church with Pastor Eddie Scheler officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ascension Lutheran Church in her honor.
