Douglas Alan Herigon, 69, made his way to his heavenly home with the Lord on November 9, 2025, with his family by his side at Texas Health Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Born in Jefferson City, Missouri to Harold J. and Bette F. Herigon, Doug graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1974. During his high school years, he worked at Memorial Pool as a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons. He was on the 1st Jefferson City Swim Team. Doug also enjoyed playing football and basketball. Doug loved scuba diving so much that he started his own Scuba Diving Salvage Company. He also worked for the Governor’s Mansion during the Kit Bond years.
Doug began his career at Wal-Mart in high school, eventually building nearly 30 years in management. After retirement, he continued to share his strong work ethic while traveling across the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii with Resource Plus, helping open Dollar General stores and snapping photos of landmarks along the way.
From his marriage to Sheryl (Winn) Herigon of 24 years, Doug was blessed with two precious daughters, Brandi and Shana. Doug’s pride and joy were his grandchildren, Jordan, Shayla, Addison, and Lane. He loved attending their sporting events, playing card games, watching movies, eating at Ton’s Mongolian Grill and Waffle House and watching sports with his family. He made it a point to talk with his daughters every day, no matter where he was.
Faith was central to Doug’s life. Doug regularly attended Cornerstone Church while living in Kirksville or watched online while living in Texas or Florida. Doug lived by his Christian beliefs with Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Doug was always willing to lend a hand to help anyone, especially his family.
Doug enjoyed woodworking, fixing anything and everything, historical documentaries, western and sci-fi movies, visiting Daytona Beach, fishing, watching Gutfeld! and sampling buffet cuisines nationwide. He was known for his humor, loyalty, and love of adventure.
Doug is survived by his daughters Brandi Slaughter (Scott) and Shana Herigon; grandchildren Jordan Herigon, Shayla Herigon, Addison Slaughter, and Lane Slaughter; siblings Randy Herigon, Mary Jeretta Kimberlin (Bill), and Suzi Hentges (Tuna); his beloved friend Pamela Hook; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and best friend Kevin (Mac) McDaniel.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Church in Kirksville, Missouri or the North Crowley High School Football Booster Club in honor of his grandson, Jordan.
