Dr. Donald Ellis Meador

Dr. Donald Ellis Meador, of Allen, Texas,  was born on a farm near Salem, Illinois on Dec. 2,1937. He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Alice Meador and a sister Jean Iris. He is survived by his wife Genell Meador and 3 children, Jeffery Kippard Meador of Salem, IL, Miles Lendell Meador of Carbondale, IL and Mileah Ann Stanton of St. Louis, MO; 6 Grandchildren,  Abygale Meador, Andrew Meador, William Meador,Audrey Meador, Jameson-Stanton and Kaitlyn Stanton. Dr. Meador received degrees from Southern Illinois University, University of Nebraska and University of Utah. He showed 2 national champion bulls and had a noted herd of Quarter Horses on his ranch at Scottsbluff, Neb. After recovery from alcoholism, he established the first Halfway house and Detox center at Scottsbluff, Neb. After advancing his education, he became a noted authority on alcohol and drug addiction and Dual Diagnosed Psychiatric problems. He treated thousands of dually diagnosed alcohol drug /psychiatric patients across the country along with working with the licensing of substance abuse psychiatric hospitals across the state of Texas for many years. He was a director of Oklahoma Mental Health, Baylor Univ. Medical Center in Dallas and Timberlawn Psychiatric Center. He had a private practice in Dallas, Texas for 25 years. He collected and sold Native American artifacts in the US and abroad for 40 years and won numerous awards on his collections at local and national shows.  After retirement he helped write 15 books on Native American artifacts and their values across the United States.  Dr.Meador evaluated collections for Estates, Lawyers and Banks and offered advice on how tosell them. He was a member of Suncreek United Methodist Church of Allen, Texas. Cremation arrangements by Lone Star Cremation.
