Edith Snoots Dougherty

d. November 2, 2012

Edie passed away Nov. 2, 2012. She was born Sept 16, 1937 to Wynne (Hunk) and Elizabeth (Buggee) Snoots. Possessing degrees in commercial art and education, Edie taught kindergarten and inspired creativity and love of learning with those students lucky enough to call her “teacher.” Whether singing in the church choir or coaching a girls’ soccer team, her boundless energy and infectious smile inspired all. Her artwork – a flower pin, a musical program, a tree ornament – delighted each recipient. Edie was the perfect mother, teaching her children how to bait a fish hook, eat an artichoke, and devour a good book. She loved travel, genealogy, and her beloved Dunbrokus Farm. But most of all, she loved her husband, family and friends. Always supportive, always smiling, always gentle. Edie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bruce; children Laurie (Jesse) Cockerell and Travis (Sharie) Dougherty; grandchildren David and Molly McNair, Bailey and Ryder Dougherty, and Benjamin and Kyle Cockerell; brother Wynne (Pat) Snoots; sister-in-law Norma (Gordon) Smith; Wynne, Betsy, Steve and extended family and friends. Memorial Service: A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 15th at 3:30 pm at Lakewood United Methodist Church in Houston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on line or sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD, 21741.
