Graham John Geary

June 28, 1948 — January 11, 2026

Graham John Geary was born on June 28, 1948, in Moascar, Egypt, to Ernest John Geary and Sheila Ireson Geary. He passed away on January 11, 2026, in Dallas, Texas.

Graham was truly a man of the world. Born in Egypt, he spent his early childhood there before moving with his family to Austria, where his sister Vanessa was born. The family later lived in Hong Kong before eventually returning to the United Kingdom in the 1960s.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Graham joined the British Army at the age of 15, attending the Army Apprentice College before progressing into the Royal Engineers. He served with distinction for 25 years. Among his many accomplishments, Graham completed two tours with BRIXMIS (the British Commanders’-in-Chief Mission to the Soviet Forces in East Germany) during the Cold War—first from 1979 to 1981, and again from 1988 to 1989—gathering critical intelligence on Soviet military activity.

During his military career, Graham was awarded the General Service Medal (1962) for his service during The Troubles in Northern Ireland, the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in recognition of 15 years of exemplary service, and the British Empire Medal (BEM). He was especially proud of the BEM, awarded for his work with BRIXMIS, which contributed to shaping NATO’s response to the Soviet threat. His time in the Army deeply shaped his character, and he held lifelong bonds with those he served alongside—especially his BRIXMIS comrades, whom he considered family.

In 1990, Graham moved to the United States, where he later became an American citizen. He began a new chapter with the U.S. Postal Service, where he was recognized for his natural ability as a trainer. He later worked in international business development for several technology companies.

Graham was known for his cheeky smile and unmistakable English sense of humor, which brought joy and laughter to those around him—even during the challenges of illness. He was an avid photographer, writer, and adventurer, capturing his travels and experiences with his beloved wife, Cherie, and with family and friends through both images and words. In retirement, he completed an extraordinary personal achievement—writing an 800-page work of fantasy fiction, a project of which he was immensely proud and did to leave a legacy to his grandchildren. His family hopes to see it published as part of his lasting legacy.

Graham and Cherie shared a deep passion for travel, culture, and service—embracing opportunities to explore the world while giving back to others.

Graham was also a dedicated board member of the Parkinson Voice Project, receiving its services, for over 16 years where he found joy and community singing with the “Intentional Singers.” He was admired for his humor, resilience, and determination, and became a source of inspiration within the Parkinson’s community—truly embodying a life lived fully “with intent” despite challenges, doing his voice exercises everyday at locations all over the world while traveling.

For 13 years, Graham and Cherie were actively involved with Dove Youth Development in the Dominican Republic. In his honor, the organization’s founder and dear friend has dedicated her upcoming climb to the summit to his memory. A Celebration of Life was held there on March 20, 2026, prior to the climb.

Graham is survived by his loving wife, Cherie, of Carrollton, Texas; his children, Emma and Peter; his stepdaughter, Blake; and his cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Madeleine, Lily, and Lochlan. He is also survived by his sister, Vanessa; his nieces, Kate and Helen; Helen’s children, Cameron and Alice; and Judith, the mother of Emma and Peter.
