Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Anne and his parents Velma and Henry Harmon JR. Born on February 17, 1933, in Cushing, OK, Jim’s lifelong passion for music led him to pursue studies in piano performance and conducting at Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma University, and SMU. At SMU, he formed a lasting friendship with his professor, Alfred Mouledous. Jim’s dedication to the arts was evident throughout his life, notably as a Music Minister in various churches, including Oak Lawn Methodist Church, University Park Methodist Church, as well as Trinity Presbyterian Churches in The Colony and McKinney, TX. His musical influence extended beyond the choir room, as he spent 20 years imparting his knowledge through private piano and voice lessons, leaving an indelible mark on generations of aspiring musicians. A lover of art, Jim curated an extensive private collection for his personal enjoyment and served as the manager of the Turtle Creek Gallery, primarily representing the work of Don Mitchell. Jim’s warmth and generosity were not confined to the realms of music and art. His kind and helping hand reached out to those around him, whether guiding a choir or tutoring a student. Jim’s legacy is one of kindness that touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he served. In accordance with his wishes, Jim will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will take place after the holidays. Details for the memorial service will be provided at a later date. As we mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, let us also celebrate the rich tapestry of Jim’s life and the countless lives he enriched with his love, music, and generosity. May his soul find eternal peace.
