James Nelson Goodson, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Hospice House at Hugely in Burleson, TX.
He was a resident of Crowley, Tx for the past two and half years since the passing of his wife Norma. He was a former resident of Wayne County, GA, Atlanta, GA and Wyaconda, MO. James was born March 9, 1936 in Knox City, Missouri to the late James Goodson and Ruby Mae McFadden. James was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. James joined the U.S. Army in 1953 achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). He served as a nuclear weapons technician in several overseas positions including Germany and Italy. He retired from the Army in 1978 as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician. After he retired, James and Norma spent many years traveling and making memories. James enjoyed cooking, watching the Atlanta Braves and Fox News. In addition to his parents, his wife, Norma Irene Swinderman, his two sons, Mark Earl Goodson and Mathew Guy Goodson and his two sisters, Helen King and Alice Rayborn, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include three children, Michele Elaine Hudson of Carrollton, Georgia, Michael Edward Goodson and wife, Pam of Odum, Georgia and Penny Joyce Bohannon and husband, Tim of Crowley, Texas; one sister-in-law Judy McElhinney of Unionville, Missouri; grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Rodriguez, Rochelle Leann Hughley, Christopher Michael Goodson, James Mathew Goodson, Jonathon David Goodson, Timothy Patrick Bohannon, Stephanie Diane Bogert and Taylor Irene Bohannon and great grandchildren, Frances Ellen Michele Payton, Michael Judson Payton, Samuel Lee Hudson, Tatum Lucas Hudson, Abbigail Rene Goodson, Christopher Michael Goodson, Jr., Hailey Anna Goodson, Michael Dylan Goodson, Isabelle Elaine Goodson, Huxley Reign Goodson, Adeleine Claire Bogert, Caleb Patrick Bohannon, Audrey Grace Bohannon, Eleanor Rose Bogert and Evelyn Rose Bogert; a close nephew Ronald McElhinney and wife Lori. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.
