James Wilton Green, known to many as Wilton, passed peacefully on November 28. He was 89. Born to James Herschel and Annie Irene Green in Floyd County Texas Wilton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong partner to his beloved wife, Betty Green.
Wilton and Betty shared a remarkable life together, Married 67 years before the passing of Betty on March 3, 2024. Their story began early in life when they met in the eighth grade and graduated together from Floydada High School. They were married in May 1956, at the First Baptist Church of Floydada, beginning a marriage marked by faith, commitment, and enduring love.
After graduating from Texas Tech University, Wilton started his career with the US Soil Conservation Service. He then moved on to selling Irrigation systems which led the couple to live in several communities across the country, including locations in Texas, Kansas, Idaho, Kennewick Washington, and Nebraska. The last years of his career in the international division took him to locations like Australia, Saudi Arabia & Libya. In time, Wilton and Betty retired to Pecan Plantation in Granbury, Texas, where they enjoyed their later years together.
Like his father and brother, Wilton was an active member of the Masons wherever his career took him. He enjoyed the friendships and the opportunities to give to the community that the Masons and Shriners provided as well as the Methodist church.
Wilton was a proud father to three children:
Mark (Susan) Green, Dee Ann (Tom) Yount, and Cheryl (Mike) Johnson. He was also a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren, who were a source of great joy and pride. He is survived by his twin sister Marceleta Box and his sister-in-law Barbara Green, preceded in death by his younger brother Robert Green.
Wilton will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his commitment to education and hard work, and the lasting example he set alongside the love of his life.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 on January 17, 2026 at Ovilla United Methodist Church Cemetery in Red Oak TX. (Lone Star Cremation, Burleson TX)
