Jimmy Rogers Biggs

Jimmy Rogers Biggs (96), a resident of St Joseph’s Village in Coppell, Texas, departed this world on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at his residence. Jimmy was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his deep love of family and for the kindness he extended to everyone.

Jimmy was born in Kilgore, Texas to James Franklin and Jimmie Jewel Biggs on February 9, 1930. He attended Kilgore Junior College and Stephen F. Austin State University. On May 11, 1951, he married Thelma Mae Boudreaux in Kilgore and they shared 67 years together. From 1951-1954, Jimmy served in the Air Force as a gunner instructor on the Boeing B-29 Superfortress. He was stationed in Greenville, South Carolina; Biloxi, Mississippi; Greely, Colorado and Spokane, Washington. While in the military, he continued his education wherever he was stationed. After his Honorable Discharge, Jimmy and Thelma moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where they lived for 59 years and raised three children.

Jimmy received his Master’s in Education from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. He served as an elementary school teacher or principal in Grants, Monument and Hobbs, New Mexico for 33 years. After his retirement, he became the principal at St. Helena Parochial School for 2 years. During his years as an educator, he inspired generations of students and faculty.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed gardening, travelling, camping and fishing. While in Hobbs, he was a member of Rotary, the ELKS Club and the Hi-Lo Dance Club with Thelma.

In April 2014, Jimmy and Thelma moved to St. Joseph’s Village in Coppell. During his 12 years at St. Joseph’s, he enjoyed getting to know residents and staff and experienced a caring community.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our friends at St. Joseph’s for welcoming Jimmy into their lives and for the love that they gave to him.

Jimmy is preceded in death by Thelma, his parents, his brother (James Milton Biggs) and his two sisters (Merle Silkwood and Billie Jean Higginbotham).

Left to cherish his memory are Ethelyn Payne (sister-in-law) of Bellingham, Washington) and his children: Angela Biggs Whitehead (Mark) of Carrollton, Texas, David Biggs (Carla) of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Mitchell Biggs (Susan) of Sedelia, Colorado. His grandchildren include Allison Whitehead Leediker (Drew) of Dallas, Texas, Grant Whitehead (Hannah) of Fort Worth, Texas, Jordan Biggs (Sarah) Tulsa, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Biggs Parrish (David) of Heath, Texas and Nicholas Biggs of New Braunfels, Texas. Great grandchildren include Ava Leediker, Emmett Biggs, Lucy Biggs and baby Parrish (due December 2026).

In honor of Jimmy’s love for education, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local school district to support future generations.

Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Village Chapel in October. A Rosary service will be held prior to interment at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
