Joan Ardell Deboer Swanson

Joan Ardell DeBoer Swanson, 82, peacefully passed on to be with beloved husband James (Jimmy) H. Swanson.  He preceded Joan in 2012, and was the love of her life. They were joined in matrimony for 51 years, and had retired to Burleson, Texas from Minnesota in 2005 to be near their son Scott.   Joan was born in Duluth, MN on February 20, 1934 to Fred A. DeBoer, Jr. and Hazel Martha Louise (Schelinder) DeBoer.  She was a long time Duluth resident, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Duluth.  She spent her early years employed by the local First American National Bank. She was currently attending First Presbyterian Church in Crowley, Texas. Throughout her life, Joan’s family was always a priority.  Her generosity and kind spirit was admired by everyone who knew her.  She was a good cook and had a meal on the table for all who came to visit.   She was devoted and selfless to those in need.  Joan was truly inspirational and courageous when she lost her Jimmy.  In retirement, they became winter Texans. The warmer weather also complimented their enjoyment of bird watching and gardening. Besides her son Scott, Joan is also survived by sister Marilyn Jane Hillman of Duluth, MN.
