Joe Dale Talkington, affectionately known as “Joe Dirt,” passed away on August 8, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 67.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late James D. Talkington and Betty Jean Talkington, Joe lived a life full of grit, humor, and love. He proudly served his country as an Army veteran and later spent his years as a tradesman, working in many different roles. Known for his self-proclaimed (and well-earned) nickname “Joe Fix It,” there was nothing he couldn’t figure out or repair.
Joe was a man with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loved his family deeply and found joy in being a father, grandfather, and had recently become a great-grandfather. His children and grandchildren will carry with them the lessons, laughter, and love he gave so freely. He was also a passionate fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys—faithful through every win and every loss.
He is survived by his brothers Reggie Talkington, Larry Talkington, Steve Talkington, and Mike Talkington; his sister Carol Smith; his children Jeremy Dunsworth, Jessica Talkington, Jennifer Talkington, Joesy Talkington, and Jacky Talkington; his grandchildren Christian Dunsworth, Bryson Dunsworth, and Anthony Dunsworth; and his great-grandson Jaxon Cole Dunsworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Talkington, and his sister, Donna Jean Dabney.
Joe’s larger-than-life presence will forever be missed, but his memory lives on in the stories and love shared by those who knew him best. As he often said, “God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.”
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 30th, beginning at the VFW located at 4605 S. Pennsylvania at 3 p.m. and continuing later at the Endzone, 8884 S. Western, with a gathering at 9 p.m. All who knew and loved Joe are invited to join in honoring his life.
