d. November 14, 2008

CROWLEY — John Joseph O’Brien III of Crowley, a general contractor, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008.        Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 100 SW Alsbury Blvd., Burleson. Interment: Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home with the rosary at 5:30 p.m.        Pallbearers will be John "Jack" O’Brien IV, Mark O’Brien, Jim O’Brien, Z-Man, Bill Beth, Rick Urbanek and Scott Hester.        Mr. O’Brien was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., to John J. and Mary Neudecker O’Brien. He attended St. Mel’s High School and at that time met his sweetheart, Isabel Delgado.        Mr. O’Brien, "J.J.," beloved husband, fantastic father, loving grandfather, spectacular great-grandfather, had a heart of gold and was very protective of his family. He was generous and loving. He was a quiet man about his faith but a true spirit of God dwelled within him. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Third Order of St. Francis.        "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" was their song and for more than 50 years, Mr. O’Brien cherished his wife and set a godly example for his eight children. In business for himself, he taught his sons and daughters how to do it, fix it, find it, heal it and love it. There really wasn’t anything he could not do!        "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful. Come and share your master’s happiness!"        Mr. O’Brien was preceded in death by his wife, Isabel V. Delgado O’Brien; son, Michael O’Brien; parents, John and Mary O’Brien; twin brother, Francis; sister, Mary O’Brien Russell; and granddaughter, Christy.        The family wishes to acknowledge what a wonderful privilege, honor and blessing it was to care for our dad, who so tirelessly took care of and raised us. Thanks also to Vitas Hospice for the care and instruction, so we were able to keep our precious daddy at home.        Survivors: He is survived by his children, Mary Ann and John "Z-Man" Zevchak, Joan and William "Bill" Beth, John "Jack" O’Brien, Erin and Kenneth "Rick" Urbanek, Kathleen and Scott Hester, Mark and Heather O’Brien, and James "Jim" and Jennie O’Brien; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; best friend and brother-in-law, Van Herrero and Margaret; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wagner, Zona Rita Gryzoski and Loretta Bopp; and a host of relatives and friends.
