Linda Lou Hoover

February 4, 1948 — April 12, 2025

Linda Lou was born on February 4th, 1948, a typical Fort Worth winter's day. Her Mom, Annie Lou Barksdale, recounted that she'd driven herself to Harris Hospital that morning because she did not trust her husband, J.T., to drive in the "wintery mix" of sleet and snow.
Linda determined early on by role playing as kids do that first, she wanted to be a teacher, then a doctor. But it wasn't until 10 year old Linda determined her role in this universe was as a nurse. She was a volunteer and Candy Striper (nurse in training) at the hospital. But it was a chance (not really, her Mom and my Dad arranged it!) encounter with a skinny boy that needed a haircut named Everett, a junior during her senior of HS (Both have described their first encounter as "Finding what I didn't know I'd lost.") that delayed her entry to LVN School. They were engaged his entire senior year while she spent her first year at ASC (now UTA). They married in 1967, established a home and family, and she entered LVN School in 1975 with her best friend, Linda Kay Stepp. After graduation, Linda worked PRN for 7 seven years.
Then in 1982, her mother-in-law called to say the Dr she worked for was looking for an office nurse/chief of staff as his was retiring. She worked for Dr Kennedy until sometime in the 90s, when he sold the practice to Dr John Schmidt, with one stipulation: Keep Linda.
Which he did, even through his first heart attack, especially after she convinced another Dr in town to cover for him 1 day a week, until she was forced to prematurely retire because she blew out a disc in her back and couldn't stand or walk for more than 5 minutes. Everett was offered early retirement in 2011, and for 10 years, life was good; they went on 2 cruises, reconnected with Linda Kay, now with a Masters in Nursing and living in Wichita, KS. Then in 2021, Linda Lou was diagnosed with "Stage 3 to 4 kidney failure" (4 is terminal).
On the weekend of April 5-6, she was struck by both a heart attack and a stroke, at which the kidneys stopped functioning completely. Over the next week, as the toxins became more prevalent, she became less coherent and lost voluntary muscle control.
On Sunday morning, April 13, around 4:15, she got to see her Lord and Savior face to face. She told the family Saturday, in a moment of lucidity, that she was excited to see her Mama again. She and Everett were married 57 years, 7 months and 11 days.
She is survived by her husband Everett, her son Jason and DIL Heather, her daughter Jennifer and SIL Ross Feickert, her grandchildren Katie, Lizzie (and grandson-in-law-to-be Keven, who goes by K), Mackenna and Erik.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
