Lyle Robert Ashmore passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Waxahachie, Texas at the age of 82. He is survived by four children: Terry Ashmore of Converse, Texas; twin daughters – Kimberly Raymond (Kent) of Salado, Texas; Kelly Ross (Sean) of Laurel, Maryland; and Kyle Ashmore (Bridgette) of Waxahachie, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren who fondly called him “Jelly Bean” Pawpaw: Cody Ashmore (Ashton); Alyssa Ashmore; Anastasia Raymond and Alexia Raymond. His great-grandchildren are Tatum, Wyatt and Trinity Ashmore. In addition, Lyle is survived by two brothers, Glen Ashmore (Janet) and Rodney Ashmore (Rosie), as well as the mother of his children, Linda (Reid) Ashmore.
Lyle was born in Haxtun, Colorado on March 20, 1943 to Robert Lamar and Ruth Louise (Winter) Ashmore. He graduated from Chase County High School in Imperial, Nebraska in 1961 where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), played Football, participated in Track, and Chorus. For a short time, he was a bull rider in the rodeo.
Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 29, 1964 and was Honorably discharged on October 28, 1970. He was an Auto Mechanic with the 37th Maintenance Company, stationed in Korea. After being discharged from the U.S. Army, he met Matthew Free who became a life-long friend and they raised cattle in Canton, Texas. Lyle met Linda Reid and they married on December 23, 1970.
In his younger years, Lyle loved to spend time with his children camping and fishing. His idea of a good day was spending as much time outdoors as possible.
Lyle was employed at TIDI (later known as Waste Management) for over 30 years, until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and gardening. He was always known for his abundance of tomatoes, potatoes and onions. Neighbors were often the recipient of his harvest and his delicious smoked brisket. Lyle always looked forward to his favorite, a box of cordial cherries every Christmas.
Lyle was a very spontaneous man who loved to socialize. He was a huge Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan. He attended many games through the years and watched every game he could find on television.
