Patricia Ann (Burns) Pembroke, 79, passed away on November 12, 2025, after a valiant battle with leukemia. She faced her diagnosis like she met other challenges throughout her life– with strength and resilience. She peacefully left this world to be with God, surrounded by her three daughters, a cherished granddaughter, and the love and prayers of family and friends.
Patricia was born on January 15, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Robert and Mable Ruth Burns. Soon after, the family moved to Bryan, Ohio, where Patty grew up in a farmhouse with her three brothers. She adored spending time with her maternal grandparents, who lived nearby. She also loved reading, riding her bicycle, and excelled in school.
After graduating from high school, she moved back to Fort Wayne and was hired at a bank, making her first step into the working world. She met her first husband and they had a son and two daughters. Patricia went on to serve as the office manager at Chemlawn for nearly ten years. During that time, she divorced and eventually met her second husband, Terrence (Terry) Pembroke, a Canadian hockey player and horse trainer. They had one daughter together, and he adopted her two daughters from her first marriage.
Her life revolved around family, work, and horses. She enjoyed traveling to Canada, antiquing, and spending time with her best friend, Nancy, who became family when she married Patricia's brother, David, in 1994.
In 1985, the Pembrokes moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Patricia first worked for another lawn care company, then The Builders Association. She spent the latter part of her career, and retired from, a large oil and gas company. After divorcing her second husband, she dedicated herself to being an involved and fun-loving grandmother.
Patricia created a cozy, stylish home that she shared with her eldest daughter, and she delighted in decorating, gardening, and refinishing furniture. She connected easily with people, had a wry sense of humor, and remained young at heart. She stayed informed about current events, kept her mind and wit sharp, and continued her spiritual journey. Her most treasured role, by far, was being “Nana.”
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Allen; daughters, Jill Moore, Julie Waldinger, and Tara Dawn Pembroke; brothers, David Burns and John Burns; grandchildren, Logan Moore, Morgan Apple, Sélah Taylor, Chase Allen, Kylie Elizabeth, Attalia Waldinger, and Jordan Michael; great-grandchildren, Grayson Moore, Kinsley Apple, and Maverick Apple.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mable Ruth Burns, brother Allen Burns, second husband Terrence Pembroke, and sister-in-law Nancy Burns.
