Richard Leroy Nimz

October 15, 1962 — August 16, 2025

Fort Worth, Texas

Richard Leroy Nimz died August 2025 at his Fort Worth home, aged 62. A beloved voice has too soon been silenced.

From his birth in Pueblo, Colorado, on October the 15th in 1962, through his graduation from the University of North Texas and beyond, he sought out truth in the world and was unafraid to pursue the unusual.

He was a mover in his local community. He was an ardent patron of the arts, a teacher of catechism to the young, and an outspoken political activist.

He was a hard worker, and skilled. He spent many years each with the Fort Worth diocese, Acme Brick, and the University of North Texas’s Health Science Center.

He was an artist. Through prose and photography, leather work and carpentry, he explored the darkness of the world and the beauty of everyday life.

He was an intellectual, versed in literature, film, computer science, history, music, and mysticism. And he was a teacher, passing on what he had learned to those who would listen to him.

He was a bon vivant, a gifted chef, a natural storyteller, and a ready jokester. He made the best pizza wherever he went as well as some of the best conversation.

He was an outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hiking, and bicycling, talents that he worked to pass on to his children.

He was soft-spoken, but firm. He was a devoted father, but a gentle one. He was always ready to take his children out for walks, bike rides, and chances to find new books to read.

He was predeceased by his parents Richard Glen and Delores Nimz, as well as his sister Audrey Crist. He is survived by two children, Richard Nicholas Nimz and Leslie Rule, one son-in-law, Matthew Rule, one sister, Dolly Wymer, her husband, Richard Wymer, and two ex-wives, Beth Cole and Emily Clark.
