Ronald Gilmore Mitchell

d. April 27, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Ronald (“Ron”) Gilmore Mitchell, age 76, of Dallas, Texas, on April 27, 2024, after a long battle with chronic illnesses. He was born on May 15, 1947, in Regensburg, Germany, to Maria Schütz Mitchell and Guy Graden Mitchell. Ron is survived by his daughters April McKenzie Patterson and Briana Strother (husband Wesley Strother), step-daughters Joy Senkel Whitman and Alicia Senkel Ribble, and sons Matt McKenzie (wife Tonia McKenzie), Shawn Marchant, and Guy Mitchell (wife Nancy Mitchell), as well as 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Maria, father Guy, sisters Lynn Midkiff and Hilde Kleinebrahm, and little brother Ronnie Lynn Mitchell. As the middle child of a Bavarian family, Ron immigrated to the United States with his maternal family when he was just four months old. Growing up primarily in Temple, Texas, he followed in the steps of his father’s military career by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force following High School and proudly served his country from 1966-1970. After his service, Ron ultimately settled in the DFW area and dedicated a large portion of his life to raising his two youngest children (Briana and Guy) while working in commercial building maintenance. He retired as a Chief Building Engineer, a testament to his dedication and hard work for over 25+ years. Ron was a true “people person,” and his warmth and kindness endeared him to all who knew him. He found joy in cooking both family favorites and new recipes, embarking on fishing trips, spending cherished moments with his family, and, most recently, caring for his beloved dog, Maggie. A private celebration of Ron’s life will be held in the upcoming weeks, where close friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the impact he had on all the lives he touched. Though he may no longer be with us, our wish for everyone is to remember and hold onto the fondest of memories you have of Ron throughout the chapters of his life, and yours.
