Roy Nelms

d. March 4, 2023

In Dallas, Texas on November 14, 1965, Roy Nelms came into this world small but mighty as one of a set of prematurely born fraternal twins. He is the son of Curry Gene Nelms & Juanita Ann (Chick) Nelms, younger brother of Curry Gene Nelms, Jr. and twin brother of Bonnie Sue Nelms. In 1976, the family settled in Carlton, Texas. While attending school in Hico he excelled at football and baseball. In 1983, he transferred to Dublin to finish out high school as a member of the Dublin HS Class of 1984. There he met the future mother of his children. Roy and Dawn (Freeman) were married in 1992 and that union produced two beautiful children who Roy personally named, Lance Chick and Stacy Kay. He valiantly and tirelessly provided for his family by working in the elevator industry, constructing elevators, escalators and moving walks. He excelled at his career and took great pride in a job well done. Intellectually gifted, Roy will be remembered for his strong mechanical aptitude, jovial laugh, love of cats and arrowhead hunting, being “Unkie Roy”, and winning the award for the hairiest legs in high school. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Curry and Ann Nelms and twin sister, Bonnie Matthews. He is survived by his son, Lance Nelms of Midlothian, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Jeff Avalos of Denton, Texas and granddaughter, Skylar Avalos. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Toni Nelms of Stephenville, Texas; brother-in-law, Ken Matthews of Carlton, Texas; nephews, Alan and Andrew; nieces, Brittany, Anna, Alyssa and Lexi; great nephews, Cason and Travis, great niece, Addison and ex-wife of many years, Dawn Freeman as well as a host of friends. Services will be held in the chapel at the First Baptist Church of Dublin on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 4 pm. Cremation arrangements by Lone Star Cremation.
