MURPHYSBORO, IL – Sharon Leggans, 79 of Murphysboro, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at her daughter’s residence in Frisco, TX. Her daughter, Allyson Meier and grandson, Derek Meier were at her side. Sharon was born on April 7, 1942, in Ferdinand Indiana, to Francis Zink and Alberta Zink. She was the oldest of ten children. She moved to Southern Illinois in the early 1960’s and resided in Murphysboro for nearly 50 years. In the 1970’s she met the love of her life, Floyd Leggans. They were married for 33 years until he passed away on October 21, 2003. Sharon loved watching grandkids and was involved in the local schools and little league ballgames. She loved to play cards and games and was active at the Murphysboro Senior Center. She is survived by her daughter, Allyson Meier of Frisco, TX and son, Mark Meier of Murphysboro, IL. She has three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers and four sisters: Lee Zink of Robinson, IL, Brian Zink of Rossville, IN, Jeanne Zink of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Sylvia Stemle of Montgomery, AL, Elaine Parker of Westfield, IN, and Vicki Meyer of Ferdinand, IN. She has numerous nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Leggans, her parents, Francis and Alberta Zink, and three brothers; Kenneth, Thomas and David. In honoring Sharon’s wishes, she will be cremated and her family will spread her ashes at a later date.
