| Sheryl Vernice Miles, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, at the age of 71. Sheryl was born on December 13, 1953, in Eminence, Indiana. She spent much of her life in Martinsville, Indiana, before later moving to Avon and Plainfield. In July 2025, she relocated to Weatherford, Texas, where she was able to spend her final months surrounded by the love of her oldest daughters and family. A lifelong learner and passionate educator, Sheryl earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Indiana University. She dedicated her career to teaching science, inspiring countless students with her knowledge, kindness, and enthusiasm until her retirement. Outside of the classroom, Sheryl had a creative and nurturing spirit. She loved sewing, crafting, and gardening. Her Christian faith was important to her and she found joy in attending church. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her. Sheryl is survived by her sister, Lana Wigal of Martinsville, IN; her four daughters, Stacey McKenzie and son-in-law Chris McKenzie of Weatherford, TX; Stefanie Sloan of Breckenridge, TX; Rachel Bird of Terre Haute, IN; and Megan Hovious of Baltimore, MD. She is also lovingly remembered by her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Sheryl’s life will be honored in a private gathering at Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford, TX on Monday October 27 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Hendricks County or the American Cancer Society in her memory. |
