| Bret Hicks passed away with family by his side on September 15, 2026 Bret was preceded in death by his parents, Myrna and Elmer Hicks. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Connie, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage; his son David Teague, his daughter, Brandi Stephens, and her husband, Jeffery; and his son, Timothy Hicks, and his wife, Sarah. His greatest legacy continues through his 16 grandchildren: Jordan Van Auken, Kaylee Holt, Tristan Teague, Macie Thweatt, Brennan Griffin, Blayne, Rylen Hicks, Brooklynn Stephens, Stetson Hicks, Spencer Stephens, Cruz, Sadie, Lawson Hicks, Tripp, Austin Stephens. While our hearts are heavy with the loss of him, our souls are filled with a lifetime of memories that will carry us through the days ahead. My father was, in every sense of the word, a cantankerous man with a big personality and an even bigger presence. He was stubborn, strong-willed, and never afraid to tell you exactly what he thought. Those qualities could test your patience, but they were also a part of what made him so wonderfully, unmistakably Dad. His stories, his opinions, his laughter, and even his stubbornness will be deeply missed. Bret had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether it was being outside, enjoying nature, or simply doing things his own way, that love became part of who he was. It is a love that will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren and be passed down through generations. The memories made outdoors, the lessons learned, and the traditions he created will keep a piece of him alive in all of us. The last few years of Bret’s life were filled with pain, illness, and battles that tested him in ways no one should have to endure. But he fought like hell to beat them. His stubbornness, which had always been such a defining part of him, became something we cherished. He wasn’t ready to give up, and he fought to stay with the people he loved for as long as he could. Though we will miss him more than words can express, we will carry Bret with us—in the stories we tell, in the traditions we continue, in the outdoors he loved, and in the lives of the children and grandchildren who carry his legacy forward. |
