Tony Ray Bugg

May 1, 1962 — August 30, 2025

Corpus Christi, Texas

In Loving Memory of a Devoted Husband, Father & Friend

Tony Ray Bugg left his earthly body and went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with leukemia, at the age of 63. Tony was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 1, 1962 to Bill & Hannah Bugg. He grew up in Norman, Oklahoma on a farm with his two older sisters, Leilani and Connie. He often spoke fondly about his upbringing on the farm and his many adventures there. They later lived in Cape Coral, Florida and then moved to Austin, Texas, where he accepted Christ as his Savior at age 14 at Allendale Baptist Church.

Tony's family moved to Corpus Christi in 1977, where he met his wife, Denise, at Gardendale Baptist Church. They married in November 1981 while he was a student at Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M) in Kingsville. Upon graduation with a BA in Electrical Engineering, they moved to Austin, Texas, where Tony got his first high-tech job at Texas Instruments in 1984. He had a long, successful career in semiconductor sales and marketing, often traveling in the states and internationally. He was blessed to also travel with Denise and their daughters, Rachel and Alyssa, all over the U.S. and abroad. Tony & Denise moved back to Corpus Christi in 2010 to assist with their aging parents and for Tony to manage his father-in-law’s business, Thurman Fondren Glass Company. He was also a founding member of Summit Church Texas.

Tony had a presence and personality that brought warmth, laughter, and unwavering love and support to all who knew him. He loved the Lord and shared his faith with many throughout his life. His devotion to his family was unsurpassed; he was a loving and devoted husband and father, working tirelessly to provide, protect, and nurture, always putting the needs of his loved ones above his own. He was a father to the fatherless, an encourager and faithful friend. He loved giving advice and helping guide his nieces and nephews, youth at church, coworkers, and many others. He led adult and youth bible studies for many years and also ministered weekly to men in Lockhart Prison for ten years. He was generous and always lending a helping hand. He was strong and bold, yet gentle, kind, and loving. He was playful, silly, goofy, and always the biggest kid in the room. He was also very adventurous, loving snowboarding, scuba diving, skydiving, ziplining, and waterskiing. Wherever Tony went and whatever he was doing, he lived in the moment and fully enjoyed life, and you could always hear his deep, contagious laughter.

Tony left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he so deeply touched and inspired. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he so freely gave. In times of joy and in moments of hardship, his unwavering strength, support and boundless love served as a guiding light for others.

We find comfort in knowing that his life was rich in his faith in God, defined by generosity, integrity, and a deep affection for those he held dear. May his memory be a blessing to you and his soul rest in eternal peace. Tony will be forever missed but never forgotten!

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Hannah Bugg. He is survived by his wife, Denise Bugg, and his daughters, Rachel Bugg Zapeta (& Allan Zapeta), Alyssa Wade (& Jared Wade), granddaughters Hannah Wade and Olivia Wade, and sisters Leilani Anderson and Connie Simpson.
