Denton, TX - Troy Lee Mercer, 53, passed away at his home in Denton, Texas on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1972, Troy’s life took him across the country as his mother moved for work - before his heart ultimately found its home in Texas. He spent his childhood years in Baldwinsville, New York, and his formative years in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where his personality, values, and lifelong passions were shaped.
Troy’s greatest love in life was football. More than a game to him, it was a language, a community, and a lifelong source of enjoyment. He played at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, an experience that left a lasting imprint on who he was—instilling discipline, loyalty, and a competitive spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of college football, and no team held his heart quite like the University of Miami Hurricanes, whom he followed with unwavering passion and pride.
Troy is survived by his brother, Darren, along with many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss him—especially on game day.
He will be laid to rest beside his mother, Carol, in Rocky Mountain National Park during a small private ceremony, honoring the deep bond they shared and the love that continues beyond this life.
Troy will be remembered for his never-ending quest for happiness, his extreme generosity to those he loved in times of need, his massive love for football, and the lasting mark he left on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
