Wendell Wade Walker, 81, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Wade was born on May 12, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Willis and Eleanor Walker. The youngest of four
children—Roy, Glenda, and Marilyn—he grew up in Handley and was part of the first class to attend
Eastern Hills High School for all four years. During his time there, Wade excelled as captain of the football
team and also played baseball and ran track. He served as Senior Class President, a testament to his
leadership and character.
After graduating from Eastern Hills, Wade earned his degree from Texas Wesleyan College, followed by a
master’s in education from Texas Christian University and a Principal’s Certification from Tarleton State
University.
Wade dedicated his career to Fort Worth ISD, beginning as a teacher and coach at O.D. Wyatt, Carter
Riverside, and Western Hills High School. His influence touched countless young men and women both in
the classroom and on the field. Later, Wade transitioned into administration, serving as assistant
principal at Dunbar and O.D. Wyatt before becoming principal at Handley Middle School, where under his
leadership the campus achieved Recognized status. In total, Wade devoted 35 years to shaping the lives
of Fort Worth students.
Along the way, Wade built a loving family with Monique, Melanie, and Chad. He then married Elvie, gaining
Alice and Shaun as part of the family. Over time, their family grew even larger with spouses and
grandchildren. Wade cherished time with his family—whether at The Farm, at reunions, or on Sundays
after church. He was a proud and devoted “Papa,” attending every game, recital, performance, and event
his grandchildren participated in, always followed by family time and a great meal.
The Farm was a special place for Wade, filled with memories of the herd and Precious, Easters, Fourth of
July celebrations, cookouts, sleepovers, coaches’ retreats, hayrides, fence-building, and even a proposal.
He also loved traveling with family and friends, playing dominoes, and being active in his church
community.
A lifelong member of Handley United Methodist Church before joining Trinity United Methodist, Wade
shared his musical gift as a choir member and soloist, bringing joy to the congregation through his
singing.
Wade is survived by his wife of 39 years, Elvie; daughters Monique (Nathan), Melanie, and Alice; sons
Chad (Allison) and Shaun (Shannon); nine grandchildren—Jillian (Travis), Blake, Lily, Peyton, Slaton,
Stinson, Evi, and Bailey; his sister Marilyn; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Wade’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United
Methodist Church, with a reception to follow.
