Worden Edward Giles

d. December 31, 2015

Burleson, TX – Worden Edward Giles died, peacefully, at the Hospice House, in Burleson, Texas, on December 31, 2015; surrounded by his son, daughter and daughter-in-law. He was born in Clay County, TX on April 6, 1932. Worden was preceded in death, by his first wife (Gloria Elizabeth Giles), his father (Theron Earnest Giles), mother (Cassi Mae Giles) and sister (Ethlene Bochardt). He is survived by his wife of 27 years (Wilma Hunter Carrington Giles), son (Curtis Giles) and daughter (Karen Giles), step children: Jimmy Richard Carrington, Keith Carrington, Jerry Don Carrington, Donna Jean Bullock, Shirley Kay Owen, Melanie Rose Carpenter, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Worden was one of three brothers (Nelson Giles, Henry Giles) and one sister (Ethlene Bochardt), born to Theron and Cassi Mae Giles. Worden married his first wife (Gloria) in 1953 and had two children (Curtis Giles and Karen Giles). Gloria died in 1986, leaving a huge hole in Worden’s heart. He met and married Wilma in 1988 and became the instant father of 6 other children; and gained a whole new perspective of family. He served in the army, near the end of the Korean War and earned a number of distinguished medals for marksmanship. Worden spent his time, stationed in Germany, and was honorably released from service, after 4 years. He then went to work as a tool grinder, for Fort Worth Steel. Then, he went to Thomas Conveyor and Machinery in Burleson, TX; where he worked as a machinist for the next 27 years. He retired to his home, in Burleson, Texas, where he lived, until his death; from complications due to his COPD. He loved to fish and ski; where he was noted for skiing with one hand, while smoking a cigarette and holding his ball cap on (with the other hand). If and when he fell, he always managed to keep his cigarette and ball cap dry. But most of all, Worden loved his family! Anyone meeting Worden, loved him. His laugh was infectious and he was always pleasant to be with. Worden’s life will be celebrated at the Burleson Commons Church of Christ in Burleson, TX on Monday, January 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Since he will be cremated, there will not be a viewing.
